Map Gen

Platform: PC

Status: Suspended

Engine: Gamemaker

Map Gen is a program developed to generate random plausible maps of planets. The program generates tectonic plates, layers land and ocean over it, and uses the generated tectonic plates to create mountains and trenches. The program also generates random rivers and biomes based on the latitude. Additionally, the program takes into account the spherical nature of the world and will realistically stretch the top and bottom of the map.

Role: Sole Developer, Programmer

Contributions:

  • Developed all of the code for the project for each stage.
  • Utilized randomization to seed the map with tectonic plates, land, sea, and biome start, then expanded each and used the data of certain layers to influence others.
  • Designed and implemented code to simulate a globe to stretch map elements correctly.
